The History of Petsearch

Petsearch (UK) was founded in February 1990 by Paula & Harry Greaves of Solihull because some animals were being destroyed when their owners were unable to locate them within the statutory 7 days grace before death or resale. They felt that a central point registering all information of lost or found pets was badly needed.  They offer this FREE SERVICE 7 days a week, but the demand escalated to such an extent that volunteers had to be sought for other areas - and so a national network of petsearchers came into being.

  • Our principal aim is to get help for all animals and caged birds that are lost or in distress, in the West Lothian catchment area.
  • We are not a charity, WE ARE A VOLUNTARY ORGANISATION and we know firsthand what it is like to lose a pet to a motor vehicle or never to be found.
  • Our Helpline is run entirely voluntarily and NO CHARGE is made for our services. But if we manage to trace your pet a DONATION would be gratefully received to pay our administrative overheads i.e. telephone bills, stationery, petrol and cat food/litter for overnight stays.
  • Many charities today have become big businesses whilst groups such as ours are fighting hard to keep going.
  • Have you taken in a stray or feeding a stray cat or dog please ring us.

Sad News for West Lothian Petsearch

Mrs Florence Ashcroft, the founder of Petsearch West Lothian passed away in her sleep in October 2009.  She will be sadly missed by all for the help she has given to owners and their pets over many years in the West Lothian area.  Petsearch has now been taken over by Mrs Gina Faulds and Mrs Kathleen Jones based in Livingston.  We will continue Florences great work helping Animals and owners in the West Lothian area.  Please note the new telephone number 01506 870305.  If you have a landline number please supply it so that we can reduce our return phone call cost.

Petsearch has found Cats & Dogs with Microchips but the Owners have not sent the Forms off to the Chipping Company.
If the details are not recorded at the chipping Company.  The animal is walking around with a useless chip.(Why pay money and not register the animal ?)
If you have not sent in your Paperwork, do so as soon as possible.
If your details change ie  Address or Phone no. ring the Chipping Company as soon as possible. (Numbers to be found on Links Page)  

  • We keep a register of all pets that have been reported lost or found and try to match these reports so that the animals may be returned to their owners.
  • We also scan found pets and return them to their owners.
  • We scan and record cats that have been killed by vehicles. (Information given to us by the public).
  • We provide helpful information on our Links page to deal with most situations and hold details of rescue centres, vets, wild life experts, SSPCA etc.
